  Learning to Live since 1972

prodigal house

Prodigal House was founded as a therapeutic community in 1972 to address the needs of returning Viet Nam Veterans who had alcohol and drug problems. We soon became a leader in extended care chemical dependency treatment for male veterans.

In 1988 the Halfway House Program was started, and in 1992 it was decided we could better serve our population by focusing strictly on the halfway house modality and the extended care program was discontinued. In 1997, for many different reasons, we decided to open our doors to non-veterans and became open to the general public although we still give Veterans admission preference.

Today Prodigal House offers many different services to better serve the needs of chemically dependent men. Included are residential and non-residential treatment, housing, a wide variety of groups and educational assistance just to name some of what we have.

A Leader in Relapse Prevention

Prodigal House is a leader in Relapse Prevention in Minnesota Treatment Centers. We have been utilizing the relapse prevention approach to chemical dependency since 1985.

Service Related Information

Prodigal House is structured so that each client receives maximum services.  Because of the nature of our work we feel that the first thirty-five days are crucial to understand the dynamics of relapse prevention. The client's progress and treatment plans are done weekly individually with his counselor and in weekly clinical staff meetings.

Prodigal House has five qualified L.A.D.C. Counselors including the Executive Director. Our staff has been trained in Cultural Diversity and our staff is culturally diverse.
